Exercising sucks until you find a kind you like.
Lynnea loves dancing, can never consistently motivate herself to just "go to the gym", and is strapped for cash at all times. She made this website to give people in similar shoes a chance to have fun getting active without breaking the bank. About LynneaLynnea is a Chicago-based dance fitness instructor, musician, and artist. While her childhood and adolescence were peppered with recreational and competitive dancing, her journey with "dance fitness" began in 2011 when her friend Christina dragged her to a Zumba class. A runner at the time, Lynnea had always assumed that dance cardio "wouldn't count as a real workout". On the contrary, she walked out of that class dripping with sweat and a dream. This was the first time Lynnea realized exercise could be fun. She immediately became certified in Zumba, and choreographed a dance to Aaron Carter's "Aaron's Party" in her kitchen. This marked the start of what became "choreographing dance-cardio routines and teaching her version of Zumba anywhere that would let her". The roster included but was not limited to: the student gym of her university, an annual children's Christmas event on campus, a medical clinic, a Muslim Community Center, various college dorms, a sorority in San Diego, and a volunteer hub in Nicaragua. She stuck with Zumba until a student complained that her class, "wasn't 'Zumba enough' to count as Zumba". In a blind rage, Lynnea researched other dance fitness formats she could try, and found/became certified in two formats: WERQ, which provided strict choreography, and Old Skool, which she helped choreograph for. Lynnea began teaching both formats regularly at gyms in the city, while also freelancing at a women's homeless shelter, on a ship in the Mediterranean, at multiple high schools (both for teachers and for students), and for young gymnasts in the suburbs. In time, Lynnea began to miss the freedom of choosing her music and choreographing her own dances without restriction. She stressed out about it regularly for about a year, and finally decided to jump ship on pre-existing formats in 2019. And thus, the birth of "dance partyy by lynnea, LLC". Under her self-choreographed brand, she has continued teaching in gyms and freelance environments, but also added outdoor classes, online classes, and this website. When summoned, she also leans into the sultry side of dancing by performing in burlesque shows, leading "ass class" workshops, or teaching risqué routines for bachelorette parties. If you're curious about hiring her for one of those, holler at her via email on her connect page! Teaching dance cardio is the only thing Lynnea has ever known for certain that she was made to do. She has been having so much fun making videos for this site, and is forever in love with everyone who has contributed to any part of her dance life. |
